Toronto’s Cannabis Retail Lottery Winners

in News/Toronto

Unless you’ve been in a stoned perma-haze this past month, you’ll know that the government of Ontario completed its lottery selection for retail cannabis licenses today. Toronto will see five cannabis shops open their doors this coming April, with an additional six in the GTA.

Toronto Winners:
Heather Conlon 398788
Colin Campbell 399836
Dana Michele Kendal 408389
Hunny Gawri 423754

GTA Winners:
Guruveer Singh Sangha 421776
David Nguyen 423565
Tripsetter Inc. 427833
Alexander Altman 414725
Gary Hatt 416473

Now that the lottery draw has taken place, it’s not all smoke and games for those selected. According to the Financial Post, “Lottery winners will now have until Jan. 18 to submit a Retail Operator Licence Application with extensive detail on the timeline for getting a cannabis store up and running. They would then be subject to a background check, which will include scrutiny of tax records and financial statements. Additionally, the 25 winners will have to submit a $50,000 letter of credit and a non-refundable $6,000 fee payment to the AGCO.”.

In addition to these strict requirements, the winners will be fined $25,000 if they do not open their retail location by April 31st, 2019.
